Meet the founders – Magos

1 – Can you briefly explain what your solution is all about? What’s unique about it?

Magos smashes the benchmark for highest finger interaction quality in virtual training and simulation applications, enabling lifelike interactions with the digital world via human fingers.

Being the only solution that changes the whole experience, as it moves training from an unrealistic or even negative event to a real experience!

An integral part of its design is its proprietary technology.

Of high importance (for side products) is the generation of (reliable and highly accurate) motion data that can be utilized to deploy applications either in XR (training validation, knowledge or in other markets (robotics, healthcare other).

In parallel, the coming of the Metaverse age opened up new horizons for the further development of the Human Machine Interface in uncharted shores of the immersive world.

2- What’s the story behind your company? How was the idea for this business born?

Magos idea was born in the 2016 “Act in Space” competition by ESA (Toulouse). The founders applied for a challenge (“steal” the abilities of Magneto – Xmen) to track finger and hand motions with a magnetic tracking solution for developing a sign to speech solution. Since then both technology and business has been evolved.

Via multiple EU grants and awards, the team managed to develop a high tech solution reaching today in a pre-commercial version TRL7 and signing contracts with early adopters (SIEMENS, UCD, HAMK, Fraunhofer).

3-Which is the challenge that your solution tackles, and how do you set apart from the other companies with similar solutions?

There are several products trying to improve the way a user interacts with a digital environment. Different kinds of sensors are being used like IMUs, magnetic, optical and stretch sensors, each with its own advantages; however, all key competitors are unable to provide reliable data because of their technology constraints: the major problem in solutions using IMUs is the error accumulation which require often recalibration, in electromagnetic solutions the interference by the external environment, in wireless solutions the occlusion effect (i.e. placing one hand below the other which results in no tracking) and in stretch sensors their low reliability. The MAGOS Platform is the only one that gives you that truly natural and intuitive feeling of touch.

The MAGOS Platform constitutes the technology platform that is able to serve several verticals, due to its advanced data reliability, robustness and accuracy. High profile organizations in verticals like gaming, healthcare and engineering have already expressed their willingness to be early adopters.

4- What are your goals, and what’s the biggest challenge you are trying to overcome at this moment?

Secure remaining seed round (€1.85M-18months)

Team: to reach 14 people

Product development: Reach the 1st commercial version

Business development: deploy PoC and pilot projects in early adopters

Beachhead market: define the market that our solution would benefit the most

5- What advice would you give to an entrepreneur trying to pave his/her way in the space sector landscape?

Deep Tech is a highly demanding and challenging area. Only highly skilled entrepreneurs may overpass the important barriers but the ones that are patient, lucky and capable will emerge and conquer the market.

6- About SUN, why did you apply?

Our focus is virtual training and simulation in aerospace and healthcare. So, via SUN we expect to expand our network in those areas and deploy pilots for corporates.
