Meet the founders – Prometheus Space Technologies

1- Can you briefly explain what your solution is all about? What’s unique about it?

Wildfires are a devastating and dangerous force in our world that causes a huge impact on human life, the environment, infrastructure, society, and the economy.
The Prometheus team has developed a ground-breaking solution: The Hercules Rapid and Resilient Crisis Response Mission which is an innovative software platform designed for real-time crisis response management at a global scale with unparalleled speed, agility, effectiveness, and resilience with the unique ability of a 7 days’ wildfires prevention forecast in high spatial resolution.

2- What’s the story behind your company? How was the idea for this business born?

The Prometheus team, with over 20 years of working experience are unbeatable veterans in aerospace. They decide to commit and dedicate their expertise for a greater good: To deal with the cosmic dangers that put our world at great risk!

The first project they created is the Charybdis Active Debris Removal Satellite System which is an innovative way to deal with the huge problem of space debris in a way that totally differentiates from its competition while working unstoppable designing and creating concepts for any cosmic danger such as asteroid impact detection and solar flares monitoring.

While we work to protect our planet from cosmic dangers and make space a safe area, our main focus is to prevent the environmental disasters on our planet and help to create a safe world for all. This is the reason that created the pioneering project Hercules: To prevent environmental disasters before they happen and minimize their impact.

We are what the world needs on bad days. But we are more than that: We work hard in the present to create a future with no bad days.

July 23, 2018, was the day that would change everything. It was a hot, dry summer day when a wildfire started on the outskirts of Athens. The wind was blowing fiercely, and the flames spread quickly through the dry brush.

The firefighters fought bravely to put out the blaze, but it was too late. The fire had already claimed 102 lives and destroyed hundreds of homes. This was the second most devastating wildfire of the 21st century.

The Prometheus team has been working tirelessly since then to create the most vital and resilient solution for the reason that caused such unspoken disaster. It was a devastating event, and it was a wake-up call for all of us. We realized that we needed to take steps to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

We knew that we needed to focus on preventing environmental disasters. We needed to make sure that our forests were properly managed, and that we were taking steps to prevent climate change. This was the moment that we decided to dedicate ourselves to preserving our planet.

3-Which is the challenge that your solution tackles, and how do you set apart from the other companies with similar solutions?

The main challenge that we have to deal with continually, is how we will integrate on our project any latest technologies that would put us in front of our great competition. We continually work to improve the prevention models and to reach the maximum resolution. Our latest challenge is to advance our pioneering intentional arson human activities detection, which is a not effectively existing service so far by any venture. The success of this would put us in lead and this is our target.

The reasons that make us different from our great competition are that we provide complete services to our end-users and we cover all of their needs in Prevention, Preparation and Response with cutting edge and game-changer technologies:

  • We provide an accurate picture of the future a week before any incident occurs!
  • We provide so high resolution that it can even tell us about individual trees in forests!
  • Our precision GPS system is able to pinpoint the exact location of any imminent threat with 10mX10m accuracy!

4- What are your goals, and what’s the biggest challenge you are trying to overcome at this moment?

Our goals are to complete and successfully test our MVP beta with the prevention features, and be on market before the 2022 wildfire season starting point. It is hard to imagine the challenges that we face in trying to prevent wildfires. One of our greatest obstacles is a slow and complicated communication process with governmental agencies. We know that this will become easier as time goes on for us, but yet, we need to race in order to be ready within the 2022 wildfire season. This seems an impossible task, but we are a tough squad that manages difficulties every day. So will do the same.

5- What advice would you give to an entrepreneur trying to pave his/her way in the space sector landscape?

The cold hard truth is that space is difficult. But this heavy barrier leaves plenty of room for new ideas and creativity in what we call “New Space”, which can be an opportunity for young entrepreneurs with vision who have dreams big enough so as not just benefit themselves but also contribute towards our planet too by focusing on technologies used more responsibly than before.

My advice on young people willing to evolve in the space industry is “Follow your dreams and never quit on them” because my personal experience taught me that “Winners are not those who never fail, but those who never quit”!

6- About SUN, why did you apply?

We carefully choose our next step in the process. After evaluating many programs, SUN was found to be most suitable for strengthening existing efforts and reaching targets more easily than before with this orientation matching perfectly on what we need right now.
