Meet the founders – SDX Space
1 – Can you briefly explain what your solution is all about? What’s unique about it?
SDX Space is a cloud-based platform for data management in geospatial mapping. Our product is built using a data fusion approach, where satellite imagery analytics, combined with the alternative data allows tracking of sustainability risks, and adds qualitative layers and the social component to ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) corporate performance.
SDX Space is unique in that we focus on fostering ESG transparency in the ‘data-poor’ emerging markets.
2- What’s the story behind your company? How was the idea for this business born?
Karina, Katya and Tatiana worked at the United Nations (UN) in different capacities, together and in parallel, around the topics of cross-sector/private sector partnerships, inclusive and sustainable business, ESG and CSR. Prior to the UN, Karina and Katya have known each other as alumni of Accenture. David, Katya, Karina and Tatiana collaborated on a joint research project around mining activity in Sub-Saharan Africa, which led to the inception of SDX Space.
3- Which is the challenge that your solution tackles, and how do you set apart from the other companies with similar solutions?
The lack of transparency and standardization among data providers for ESG metrics creates market-wide inconsistencies and undermines their reliability. The majority of information dominating research and ESG indices comes from company-reported data.
SDX Space’s unique selling point is independently collected target company data as opposed to self-reported data, as well specific company’s data including its full physical asset footprint than index ESG data. As mentioned earlier, we focus on data collected from ‘data-poor’ countries or assets in countries and companies that are currently overlooked by the market.

5- What advice would you give to an entrepreneur trying to pave his/her way in the space sector landscape?
Think about the problem you are trying to solve on the ground first. Can the space sector technology bring the missing piece of the puzzle providing the solution?
